About the AI Practice

How do I know whether to start with Compass, Cultivate, or Backbone?

Buyer first: ED/CEO who needs a plan and a board narrative → Compass. COO/Operations leader who needs adoption and outcomes → Cultivate. IT director or CFO who has tools running and needs them operated → Backbone. The AI Readiness quiz is the fastest way to triangulate — it takes about three minutes.

Can I buy more than one?

Most multi-product clients pair Compass with either Cultivate or Backbone — strategy plus build, or strategy plus operate. The three together is rare and usually only fits orgs of 250+ people with active multi-team AI programs.

How is the AI Practice different from a vCIO?

The vCIO covers all of IT strategy. The AI Practice is AI-specific. Most clients with both have the vCIO sit in the Compass QBR so AI strategy stays connected to the broader IT roadmap.

What does the agent catalog actually contain?

Eleven productized agents covering common SMB and nonprofit workflows: member services, donor engagement, client intake, member concierge, IT triage, finance close support, RFP analysis, and others. What governance frameworks do you support?

NIST AI RMF, ISO/IEC 42001, and customer-specific frameworks (HIPAA, FERPA, SOC 2, CMMC, PCI) are all in scope. Compass authors the policy and runs the risk register; the IT Partnership Compliance add-on handles framework attestation.

What about BAA, data residency, and tenant isolation?

BAAs are in place with Microsoft and our core AI platforms. We honor data residency and tenant isolation requirements; we will not move your data into a vendor that does not meet your framework. Backbone monitors this continuously; Compass governs which vendors are eligible in the first place.

When does AI replace the vCIO?

It does not. The vCIO is the human accountable for technology strategy; AI changes what they spend their time on. Vendors that promise "AI replaces your CIO" are selling a product, not running an organization.

Is the AI Practice a separate contract from the IT Partnership?

Yes. They are separate engagements with separate SOWs and pricing. Many clients buy both; some buy only the AI Practice or only the partnership. There is no bundle discount because the value is independent — we will not pretend otherwise.
